Orkney man stands trial at High Court

The case against an Orkney man charged with causing death by dangerous driving began at the High Court in Edinburgh this week.

Twenty-six-year-old Erland Thomas Flaws is alleged to have been driving on the A965 Kirkwall to Stromness road at excessive speed, and without illuminated headlights, during the hours of darkness on February 26, 2012.

His vehicle is alleged to have collided with another car causing the death of two people.

The trial is expected to continue into next week.
