Ploughmen compete at national contest
Eleven ploughmen from Orkney are putting their skills to the test this weekend at 51st Scottish ploughing championships in Wick.
One of the Orcadian competitors, Carl Wood, of Pow, in Sandwick, said the team are “raring to get going” at the national contest after six of the eleven men took home three firsts, two seconds and a third at last weekend’s North and West Caithness Ploughing Association competition.
Ploughing at the Scottish championships begins at 9:30pm on both the Saturday and Sunday with the results for each day read out at 5pm on the respective days. The competition will also decide who will represent Scotland at next year’s world ploughing championship to be held in Bordeux, France.
Spectators are welcome at Stanstill Farm, Bower, Wick.
