Orkney RFC topple league leaders

Orkney RFC secured a hard fought 26-21 league victory over top-of-the-table Aberdeenshire at Pickaquoy this afternoon.

Playing into a strong wind in the first half Orkney weathered sustained early pressure from the granite city outfit and scored two converted tries against the run of play, through Jon Tait and Andrew Cuddihy, to go in 14-13 at halftime.

The second half was a tense affair with the lead changing hands four times.

Stand-off James Linklater had his kicking boots on though, and his four penalties in the blustery conditions were enough to cancel out an Aberdeenshire penalty and try, and for Orkney to edge the win.
