Orkney sites on the agenda for culture committee
The county’s historic sites will be the focus for members of the Scottish Parliament’s Education and Culture Committee during a visit to Orkney today, Monday.
The visit is part of the committee’s consideration of the Historic Environment Scotland Bill, which seeks to merge the functions of Historic Scotland and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS).
During their time on Orkney the Committee members, including Liam McArthur MSP, will visit Skara Brae and Maeshowe to see how Historic Scotland operates.
The committee will also meet with stakeholders to discuss how important the historic environment is to Orkney and whether its full potential is being realised.
