Orkney Storytelling Festival kicks off
The 8th annual Orkney Storytelling Festival kicked off this afternoon with a story walk around Orphir cemetery.
With fun activities and talks set to take place at venues across the county, this year’s festival promises entertainment for local people and visitors alike.
Visiting storytellers include Ruth Kirkpatrick, who will be leading a children’s storymaking workshop tomorrow afternoon (Friday); Hjörleifur Stefánsson, who will be bringing us tales of Orkney’s viking past; Swedish entertainer, Jerker Fahlström; and historian, Nick Mayhew-Smith, who will be hosting at talk at St Magnus Cathedral on Saturday evening.
As always, there will be opportunities for audience members to take part at Open Mic events, including the festival’s Grand Finale at The Old Library Kirkwall on Sunday night.
