Orkney Viking’s involvement in Ireland’s ‘most significant’ battle to feature on Twitter…1,000 years later
One thousand years after the battle of Clontarf in Ireland — which featured Sigurd Lodvesson, the Viking Earl of Orkney — history enthusiasts will now be able to follow the fascinating chain of events that led to the battle live on Twitter, and trace the complex web of relationships between some of the main players, right up to and including the battle itself on April 23.
According to organisers, 1014 RETOLD is “an Irish mashup of Game of Thrones and Vikings…experienced over Twitter”.
With input and support from historians, it is a creative retelling based on historical accounts to coincide with the 1,000th anniversary of Ireland’s most significant battle.
Follow the action on Twitter @1014Retold as Sigurd welcomes visiting Norse King of Dublin, Sitric, into his realm, and a plan is hatched against Irish king Brian Boru.
