Overhouse takes top spot at over-wintering competition

The title of overall champion from this morning’s Young Farmers’ Over-Wintering competition, at Orkney Auction Mart, was won by a pure Limousin heifer bought and shown by Christina Copland, from Overhouse, Harray.

The animal was chosen as best over-wintered animal by the competition’s judge, Bill Cameron from Burnside of Edingight, Keith, and Ms Copland was awarded the Northlink Trophy and a £50 voucher.

The heifer also took the prize for the highest price differential, from buying to selling, at the sale that followed the judging.

The prize for highest daily weight gain in a steer and the prize for overall highest weight gain went to a Charolais cross steer bought and shown by Daniel Henry , Howe, Harray.

The prize for highest weight gain in a heifer went to a pure Charolais heifer bought and shown by Mark Heddle, Meadow View, Stromness.
