Palace Players win on second night of drama festival

Babysitting Calvin, a farce written by John H Newmeir and performed by Palace Players (Bishops) was deemed best play of the night by adjudicator Dave Bennet, on the second night of this year’s SCDA Orkney District drama festival.

Directed by Jane Harcus, and starring, Erika Leslie, Rachel Sinclair, Chris Matthews, Shaun Tulloch and Joanna Shearer, the one-act play had the audience in stitches throughout. Mr Bennet said the play was a powerful end to an enjoyable evening.

The Two Brothers by Stromness Academy Players and Grandma’s Photograph, by St Andrew’s Drama Club were the other two plays performed last night.

The festival ends tonight with performances by Hoy and Wall Entertainments Group and Palace Players (Earls). At the end of tonight’s entertainment, as well as this evening’s  winner, the adjudicator will pick an overall winner from the festival to go forward to the divisional finals.
