Peebles crowned Sevens champions

The sun shone on the Orkney Rugby Sevens yesterday afternoon as Peebles won a first Sevens title since 2008, beating Orkney 19-0.
In the end 11 teams entered the competition after Caithness pulled out and it was Orkney — comprising of current members of the First XV and Under-23 player of the day Sam Croy — and Borders side Peebles who contested the final. In the end, it was ultimately a one-sided affair with the visitors showing greater sharpness and attacking intent.
Fellow visitors Grangemouth made it back-to-back victories in the Plate competition while Orkney’s William Thompson was named as the Orkney player of the day.
Full report will be in Thursday’s The Orcadian.
