A highly impressive performance from Orkney’s First XV saw the home side run out deserved 38-15 winners against the Penguins in the club’s 50th anniversary match.

Speaking afterwards, Penguins CEO Craig Brown said there was no doubt Orkney deserved the victory as the home side ran in six tries and scored four conversions against their illustrious opponents.

Marcus Guthrie opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a converted try, before good play down Orkney’s right-hand side led to second-row Duncan Gray touching down in the corner minutes later.

The visitors got their first try of the day on 22 minutes, before Gray got his second of the day with a memorable effort in which the 6ft 5in forward blazed a trail through the middle of the park, running from his own 22 to leave the half-time score at 19-5.
