Police appeal after bayonet recovered in Kirkwall
Police in Orkney are appealing for information after a military-style bayonet was found in a garden in Kirkwall.
The item was discovered by a member of the public in a garden in the Thoms Street area of the town and was reported to police shortly after 8.30am on Monday, July 2.
Constable Kenneth Macleod said: “Our initial enquiries suggest the bayonet was discarded in the street.
“Orkney has a rich military history and we know that a number of items of memorabilia are held in the islands.
“However, we are keen to understand how this bayonet came to be where it was and ask that anyone with information comes forward.”
Police in Kirkwall can be contacted by calling 101. Anyone with information about the bayonet should quote incident 912 of July 2 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
