Police appeals for information

Police in Kirkwall are appealing for information to do with three separate incidents, which took place within the last two weeks.

Firstly, one of a number of wooden figures, which have been placed at the side of the A961, near Cara Flats, Grimness, South Ronaldsay was vandalised last Saturday night.

Police have said it looks like a firework or similar device was ignited next to the figure causing a hole to be made in the neck of the largest figure and its head to be removed. There are also burn marks on the collar of the polo shirt worn by the figure.

With the damage done at around 11.50pm, witnesses say they saw orange flashes and heard a loud bang prior to hearing a vehicle accelerating harshly in the direction of Burray.

Police are asking for anyone with any information to come forward and also wish to remind the public of the dangers that come with setting off fireworks.

Police are also appealing for information after a grey Fiat Ducato campervan was damaged in the carpark of Tesco, in Kirkwall. According to Police, the damage was done last Friday, May 18, between 2.45pm and 3.15pm.

Finally, police are seeking information after a piece of jewellery was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Kirklands Road, between 9.30pm and 11.15pm on Thursday, May 10.

Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to call Kirkwall Police Station on the 101 phone number or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
