Police investigations after suspected gun discovery

Police have confirmed that investigations are underway after what is believed to be a handgun was discovered in an Orkney garden.

A police statement said today that following a report from a householder last Wednesday, an item “having the appearance of a handgun” was recovered.

It is understood that it was found in a garden of a house in Berstane Road, Kirkwall, although police were reluctant to release further details.

The statement however did say that the enquiries were being carried out into the origin of the suspected weapon.
