Police issue fraud warning
Police in Kirkwall are warning people of a fraudulent scheme in which letters are being posted to homes around the county claiming that people have won money through the “People’s Postcode Lottery”.
The letters ask individuals to get in touch with a company to arrange paying a processing fee to secure the money won.
According to police, these fees run into the thousands of pounds and, the individual will not receive any money.
They said this is a fraudulent scheme and have asked people not make contact with these companies.
Should anyone have any concerns or information, contact Police Scotland on 101 or trading standards at Orkney Islands Council on 01856 873535.
