Police warning over counterfeit cash
Police are warning shop keepers to be wary after an attempt was made to use counterfeit money in Kirkwall this week.
Chief inspector Eddie Graham said: “Yesterday morning at a local shop in Kirkwall a youth had attempted to tender what appeared to be a fake £10 note.
“On the back of that we would warn shop keepers to make sure they have a good look when accepting notes and to check their authenticity.”
Ch Insp Graham added: “It wasn’t a particularly good forgery and the shop assistant spotted it.
“However, it’s just to warn the wider community there may be other notes in circulation.”
