Power company moves to ‘Yellow Alert’

Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) has moved to ‘Yellow Alert’ after monitoring the development of Storm Abigail.

According to SHEPD, their weather models anticipate wind speeds of up to 90mph and the possibility of lightning, particularly in the north and west Highlands and Islands tonight and into Friday.

A spokesman said: “We are encouraging customers to be prepared and to contact us on 0800 300 999 if the power goes off, or if they encounter any damage to our network.  Members of the public should not approach fallen or damaged power lines, which may still be live.”
