Power outage leaves around 1,600 without electricity

Around 1,600 homes across the North Isles and mainland Orkney were affected by a power outage at around 7am this morning.

The areas affected included Westray, Papa Westray, Rousay, Egilsay, Wyre and Evie.

Engineers were able to restore power at around 8.20am by rerouting  through unaffected parts of the network. They are now looking to locate the exact nature of the fault and thereafter make the required repairs.

A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Energy apologised for any inconvenience which may have been caused.
