The Ruby Princess, due to call on Sunday.

With seven port calls by cruise ships already completed this season, plans are now underway at Hatston Pier for the first visit of the Ruby Princess.

With a maximum capacity of 3084 passengers and 1000 crew, the 288m long liner will berth at 7am on Sunday morning, arriving from Invergordon.

‘’Although we are now accustomed to liners of this size berthing alongside following our experiences in the 2013 season, we take nothing for granted, and building on our success with the Princess Cruise Line with the Caribbean Princess last year, we will ensure that we duplicate that high level of customer service for her sister vessel,’’said Michael Morrison, business development manager with OIC.

The Ruby Princess will call in to Kirkwall four times this season, and for her first port call, she will receive a welcome plaque and hamper of local produce which will be presented on board by Harbour Authority representatives.

‘’Despite it being a Sunday, we understand that many of the local retail outlets will be opening especially for this visit, which is much appreciated as it make passengers feel very welcome, “ added Mr Morrison, who also said that Kirkwall Post Office will be open between 10am-12.30pm.

The ship is due to sail at 5pm on Sunday for Le Havre, and will return to Kirkwall again on the June 11.
