Public sector staff in Orkney join thousands in strike over pensions
Public sector workers in Orkney joined thousands around the country in staging a strike over pensions today, on what was set to be the biggest walkout for a generation.
Teaching staff and hospital employees were among many in the county who stood in official picket lines outside public sector premises for the planned day of action.
The strike is in response to proposed changes to public sector pension schemes, and has been endorsed by trade unions with membership within the Scottish Local Government workforce, including Unison, Unite, GMB, EIS and SSTA.
