Rae plaque unveiled next week
A plaque marking the exploits of Orcadian explorer Dr John Rae is to be unveiled in Westminster Abbey, next week.
The event, in the Chapel of St John the Evangelist, is by invitation only and takes place on Tuesday, September 30, the 201st anniversary of Dr Rae’s birth.
In Orkney there will be a corresponding ceremony at Rae’s graveside, from 3.30pm, followed by a service in St Magnus Cathedral, which is open to all.
