More rainfall in the past 24 hours than entirety of May
Video: Some areas have fared worse than others in the past 24 hours. Here’s a short video from today, at the water-logged looking site of the new Balfour Hospital.
Orkney saw more rainfall in the past 24 hours than was seen in the whole of May this year, according to Rousay-based astronomer and weather watcher John Vetterlein.
He reported that there has been 55mm of rainfall, which is 10mm higher than the average rainfall for the whole of June. He also said that the entire month of May saw 41mm of rainfall, with May and June typically being the driest months of the year.
He added that this has been the wettest 24-hour period, during the month of June, that he has seen in 34 years of monitoring the weather on Rousay.
