Refresher training warning to Orkney’s licenced premises
According to the OIC, only 13 out of around 230 personal licence holders in the county have provided proof that they have carried out statutory refresher training.
Personal licence holders authorise the sale of alcohol and are required, by law, to undertake training every five years and give the local authority’s evidence that this has taken place.
Fraser Bell, clerk to the Orkney Islands Area Licensing Board explained: “If a licence holder doesn’t provide evidence of refresher training by the due date, licensing boards are required, by legislation, to revoke the licence and prohibit licensees from re-applying for personal licences for five years.
“All alcohol-licensed premises must have designated premises managers (DPMs) holding personal licences. If a personal licence is revoked from a DPM, it means that the premises must cease selling alcohol until a new DPM with a current personal licence is appointed in their place.”
