Report on Orkney Meat to come before councillors

A report on discussions between Orkney Meat and OIC officials is due to be considered at a meeting of the full council on Tuesday.

The council said it had not received official notification from Orkney Meat that it planned to stop trading.

An OIC spokesman said: “However, we have been aware that the company has been facing difficult trading conditions and this has been the subject of recent discussions between Orkney Meat and OIC officials.

“The council owns the building where the abattoir operates and is a shareholder in the business. A report on these recent discussions will be considered at a meeting of the full council on Tuesday,” the spokesman added.
