Rural support roadshow in Orkney

Today, Thursday, Orkney folk have the chance to comment on the shaping of a programme of measures to provide financial support for rural communities.

A consultation meeting on the Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP)  takes place at the Albert Hotel, Kirkwall, this evening at 7pm.

Senior Scottish Government officials will chair the roadshow — one of 14 taking place across Scotland.

The current SRDP measures are nearing their end, with the structure of the new programme still to be agreed.

The programme distributes money from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Scottish Government to be spent on things like the modernisation of agriculture, rural tourism and support for community groups and those living and working in fragile remote areas.
