Sandwick through after pulsating draw in Dounby
Sandwick and South Ronaldsay shared the spoils in a pulsating The Orcadian Parish Cup tie this evening but it is the 23-time winners that face Rendall in the quarter-finals.
Attempting to claw back a 2-1 deficit from the first leg in South Ronaldsay, the South Isles side made it 2-2 on aggregate when Robbie Scott fired home. Mark Garson restored parity for the west side on the night before Erlend Johnston prodded the ball home from an acute angle to seemingly finish the tie off early in the second-half.
Ciaran Drever gave the South Isles side hope midway through the second-half making it 2-2 with a looping header to leave his side needing one goal to progress but it wasn’t to be as Sandwick saw the game out, winning 4-3 over the two legs.
Earlier in the day, Holm swept into the quarter-finals, beating Firth 4-1 to progress 6-3 on aggregate. Alan Aim, Graeme Horne, Scott Rendall and a Chris Simpson penalty got the goals for the East Mainlanders, with Gary Aim getting the consolation for Firth.
Holm’s opponents in the quarter-finals will be Sanday after they beat North Isles neighbours Stronsay 14-1 on Sunday afternoon, winning the tie 22-1.
