Scam warning after mailing list seized in raid

The OIC is contacting people after a mailing list with more than 40 Orkney residents was seized in a raid in the south of England.

Anne Mathison, a principal social worker with Orkney Health and Care, said: “Scams of this kind can have very serious consequences for people.

“We are taking this very seriously and have written individually to everyone on the list supplied to us.

“We want to do all we can to protect local people – and provide advice and support to anyone who may already have fallen victim to a scam.”

A guide to avoiding scams produced by the Office of Fair Trading has been sent with the letter from the council to people on the Orkney mailing list.

Anyone who may have fallen victim to a scam – or is concerned about a potential scam – is welcome to contact either trading standards or social services at the council for help and advice.
