‘Secret shopper’ advert warning

The council’s trading standards service is warning anyone who responded to a recent advertisement for secret shoppers that the job opportunity is not what it seems.

The advertisement, which appeared recently in the jobs section of The Orcadian, promised successful applicants earnings potential of between £170 and £285 per week. In truth, however, it is believed that this is another advance fee/overpayment scam and trading standards is advising anyone who has responded to the advert not to fall for the fraud.

Inquiries are continuing with trading standards departments in England, to try to find out the identity of those behind the advert.

In the meantime however the Service hopes that this warning will dissuade anyone from falling for the not so lucrative offer.
