Serco strike action must be averted — McArthur

Orkney MSP Liam McArthur has the issue of the forthcoming NorthLink industrial action with the First Minister.

Speaking last night, Mr McArthur said: “The news that dates have now been set for strike action on the lifeline ferries serving the Northern Isles is deeply concerning.  The effect any such action would have on the communities in both Orkney and Shetland should not be under-estimated.

“I took the opportunity to raise my concerns with the First Minister in parliament today, and have urged the Government to update MSPs as a matter of urgency on the steps being taken to avert potentially serious disruption on these key routes.

“As this dispute arises out of the contract specified and negotiated by the Scottish Government, I believe it is essential that ministers make every effort to help resolve it.”
