All set for charity Big Fat Orkney Quiz 

Some of Orkney’s own home-grown celebrities will put their local knowledge to the test this evening, Saturday, with a special one-off “quiz-with-an-audience” takes place at the Orkney Theatre — all in aid of a good cause.

The Big Fat Orkney Quiz of the Year, sponsored by The Orcadian, will see three teams compete against each other, answering questions on local events of the past year.

With BBC Radio Orkney’s Dave Gray and Robbie Fraser on hosting duties, there will no doubt be plenty of fun and laughter along the way, all in a bid to raise as much money as possible for charity.

The event, loosely based around Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz of the Year, is part of the month-long fundraising drive – the Micro-Tyco challenge – by local business Scholes CA, which has raised £8,504 for the Wildhearts Foundation — an organisation which helps women in developing countries start their own businesses.

Because The Big Fat Orkney Quiz of the Year falls outside the 30-day challenge, the proceeds will be split between the Wildhearts Foundation and Orkney Heart Screening.

The event gets under way at 6.30pm.
