So you want to be a councillor?
The first video to appear on Orkney Islands Council’s website provides advice to anyone thinking of standing in May’s local government elections.
The short film features Councillor Roderick McLeod, who describes his own experiences, discusses what makes an effective councillor and offers advice to prospective candidates.
“Serving the community as a councillor is an important role that’s both rewarding and challenging,” said Councillor McLeod, who retires as an elected member in May, after 13 years on the council.
“I hope the film gives a realistic view of what the job entails and that it helps inspire some really good candidates to come forward and stand in May’s elections.”
