St John’s Head chosen as one of the world’s “top ten” ocean views
St John’s Head near Hoy has been chosen as one of National Geographics’ Top Ten Ocean Views in the world.
On the website, www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/top-10/ocean-views/#page=2, St John’s Head ranks alongside ocean views chosen by the publication from across the world, including Hawaii, Mexico, Australia, Oman, Iceland, Ireland, Spain and Portugal.
The website describes the iconic view as “Britain’s highest vertical sea cliff” and says “Thanks to the fierce swell and tide, just reaching its base is a serious undertaking. For less courageous types, the best viewpoint is from the Scrabster-to-Stromness ferry.”
VisitOrkney’s islands’ manager Barbara Foulkes said: “We have always known that our views and landscape here in Orkney are world class, but we are still delighted to have that recognised by such a well-respected publication as National Geographic.”
