Sunday markets at the mart

Extra trading days for local shops and groups are being held this summer, in an attempt to help boost local business.

The first Sunday Market to be held at Orkney Auction Mart takes place on July 31, with shops, businesses, market holders, food groups, crafts, fundraising groups or table top sellers invited to attend.

Robbie Stanger, from the mart, said: “We have the facilities here and we were looking for ways to generate more throughput. With the street gone quiet, we thought it might be an opportunity for businesses to advertise their wares, so we thought to put the two together and do a Sunday market here.

“It is not our intention to affect any charitable or fundraising events but to give groups a platform from which to market their wares and generate income. The Sunday market is another chance to increase sales and advertise your business.”

Two markets are planned for the summer, with one this month and another on August 28.
