Support small businesses this Saturday

Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael is calling on local residents to support Small Business Saturday on December 6.

Small Business Saturday is now in its second year, and aims to encourage people to shop in a diverse range of independent stores.

The economic and social value of the UK’s five million small businesses is an important part of communities and lifestyles, and Mr Carmichael is hoping that this day will give a pre-Christmas boost to the local economy.

Mr Carmichael said: “Small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of the local economy in Orkney and Shetland and as such anything that promotes them is great news for local revenue. I hope people will support this great initiative and our local independent stores when Christmas shopping.”
