Suspect device reported at Scapa
Scapa beach was sealed off for a time on Sunday afternoon after the Coastguard received a report that a suspicious looking device had washed ashore.
Members of Kirkwall Coastguard Rescue Team – along with police – attended at the beach shortly after 2.30pm, after a member of the public reported what they suspected to be a piece of ordnance on the shore.
A Coastguard spokesman said that on investigating the find, it was discovered that it was a piece of trawl gear, which was then taken away for disposal.
