Teenager jailed for 14 months

An 18-year-old has been jailed for 14 months, after committing an assault during an early release from prison.

Christopher Baird, who was remanded in custody for the offence on June 3, changed his plea at Kirkwall Sheriff Court yesterday, Tuesday.

Baird admitted that, on May 25, at Whitechapel, Kirkwall, he assaulted a man by striking him on the head with a bottle.

Baird was sentenced to six months for the offence, and was also ordered to serve the remainder of his original sentence.
