The Orcadian Online — Revamped!
Welcome to our new website!
We are proud to present our new improved version of The Orcadian Online, launched today, Wednesday.
A substantial facelift brings some nifty new features to users, including clearer presentation of news, features and sections for featured stories.
Orkney Media Group’s Craig Miller has worked as lead designer for the revamped website, since work was started last September.
He said: “We were very happy with the previous version of the website when it was launched but, as time has gone on, we felt we needed to have more features along the lines of integrating the weather and the cruise liner schedule. However, applying such features to the existing website proved hard to manage. So, we have started again, stripped it all back and created a much neater and more manageable system that will be easier for us to build upon in the future,” he added.
“There are many things that we added on to the old system that are now much more noticeable but, in terms of completely new features, people are likely to notice that we’ve added a slider to make sure the big stories of the week stay noticeable for longer and we’ve also upgraded the search functionality, so users can search a wider or more specific range of topics, such as motors and situations vacant, as well as the news stories.
“We hope people find the new version of the website easier to use and attractive. It’s something I am pleased with, and I look forward to continuing its development as time goes on.”
The Orcadian Online was first launched on September 14, 2000.
