The Phoenix goes digital…and 3D

The New Phoenix Cinema, at the Pickaquoy Centre, is set to show its last 35mm film tomorrow, Monday.

The current projector is being replaced with a new NEC digital cinema projector, a new silver screen, a Masterimage 3D system, and a new Dolby CP750 sound processor.

According to cinema staff, the switch to digital will ultimately mean a better experience for the customer, screening the latest films with high-quality picture and sound, with the option to screen in 3D.

The installation of the new equipment is expected to take two days to complete, so the cinema will be closed on Tuesday, April 30, re-opening on the evening of Wednesday, May 1, with Stoker being the first digital film to be shown.

The first 3D screenings will take place next weekend.
