Thorfinn FC won a 27th Brough Cup this evening, beating Kirkwall rivals Hotspurs 3-2 in a final night decider for the Orkney Cheese ‘A’ League title.

Having lost the Highland Amateur Cup Final on penalties on Saturday, Thorfinn bounced back from that disappointment to get their hands on the cup for the first time since 2010 as goals from Graham Shearer and a brace from Jerry McBeth ensured it was Thorfinn who were celebrating at full-time.

Shearer opened the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half, before Darren McLean headed Hotspurs level at the start of the second half.

Thorfinn replied with a quick-fire double through striker McBeth to seemingly put the match and title beyond their Kirkwall rivals. However, Wayne Monkman nodded the ball into the net on the 89th minute to set up a grandstand finish.

Thorfinn held on however, to celebrate a 27th Brough Cup win in their 125th anniversary year.
