Two OIC planning projects receive commendations

Orkney Islands Council has received commendations for two of its projects at this week’s Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning.

The Schools Investment Programme and the council’s Listed Building Supplementary Guidance were both recognised at the awards, which are run by the Scottish Government.

The Schools Investment Programme received a commendation in the “Delivering in Partnership” category, which recognises joint work achieved through public and private bodies. The overall winner in this category was the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village.

The OIC’s Listed Buildings and the Orkney Local List Supplementary Guidance won a commendation in the “Development Plans” category, which covers development planning, as well as other plans, policy and supplementary guidance. The judges felt this merited a commendation as it showed how planning was being proactive in protecting heritage, whilst also allowing the community to live and regenerate their local areas.
