Video webcasting idea thrown out in favour of online audio feed

Islands councillrs have backed an option to introduce an audio feed of council meetings as an alternative to the more expensive webcasting.

A report before members of the policy and resources committee said a feed could be created through the existing microphone system in the council chamber, and the public could listen ‘live’ or through a downloadable podcast.

Other measures agreed by the committee included recording all votes and publishing them on the OIC website, improving access to documents on the website, increasing the council’s use of social media, and press releases to be sent out following committee meetings setting out the recommendations made.
