Weather causing widespread disruption
The strong winds and high tides last night and this morning are causing widespread disruption across the county.
The schools in Sanday, Shapinsay and Papa Westray are closed. North Walls is open although there is no transport from the south end of the island, and there is no school transport on Westray. Stagecoach is operating school transport today, however, J. D. Peace is not.
Orkney Ferries have cancelled all sailings on the mv Eynhallow and the mv Hoy Head. Pentland Ferries have cancelled their sailings today with tomorrow’s sailings currently under review. NorthLink Ferries have also cancelled their morning sailings with their later sailings under review.
There are also delays on flights to and from Kirkwall Airport. Passengers are advised to check with the relevant companies for the latest updates.
Although the barriers are currently open motorists are being advised to proceed with caution.
