White cider ban looks imminent

White cider could become a thing of the past in Orkney as the local licensing forum push for a voluntary ban on selling the beverage, often associated with problem drinking.

Research conducted by the forum suggests that Orkney’s licensed premises would support a ban on the drink, which has been described as the “cheapest form of alcohol available.”

At yesterday’s meeting of the forum, members agreed to contact the local licensing board, advising them to write to all licensees to request they participate in a voluntary ban.
