Beware scammers claiming to be from BT

Orkney Islands Council’s Trading Standards team is advising the public to be aware of bogus callers claiming they are from BT.

The scammers phone and make persuasive attempts at trying to remotely access householder’s computers.

The callers claim that the line into the householder’s computer has a fault which they need to remotely access to repair.

Trading Standards manager, Gary Foubister, advises: “Given that the recent lightning strikes have led to communication problems in areas of Orkney, there is a greater chance that residents could mistakenly believe the calls are genuine.”
