To all players and spectators . . . a reminder from the Ba’ Committee

  • Ba-Gibson1The Kirkwall Ba’ is a traditional street football game; participation and attendance are entirely at your own risk. Please give due respect to the traditions and history of the game.
  • Player safety is paramount. Players must ease off any time there is a pack collapse, and must render assistance to players in distress whenever required.
  • Please ensure you respect public spaces and private property.

Climbing on or over roofs must be avoided, and damage to property must be avoided at all times. Needless vandalism and damage cannot be tolerated.

  • The game can change very quickly, and breaks from the pack are common.

All spectators must be aware that in these circumstances they may find themselves in direct contact with running players.

Spectators should therefore remain at a suitable distance from the pack, which will allow them to take action to remain clear of players.

  • Parents are requested to avoid bringing small children anywhere near the pack for the above reasons; pushchairs are of particular concern in this respect.
  • Pet-owners are asked to think of their pet’s welfare and also remain at a suitable distance.
  • Car-owners are requested to avoid parking in any area where the game is likely to take place.
  • Adult interference in the playing of the Boys’ Ba’ is totally unacceptable.
  • Post Ba’ parties or celebrations at individual homes are purely at the discretion of the ba’ winners and householders.

Everyone should respect the property and the rights of the homeowner, and not abuse their hospitality.
