Big night for Orkney Folk Festival committee

A group of eight from the Orkney Folk Festival will attend the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards in Inverness tonight, in the hope of picking up the award for Best Cultural Event.

The Best Cultural Event category celebrates events which include, inspire and involve all guests, whether local or visiting and provide a platform for Scotland to show off its greatest features.

Organisers of new or established local, regional or international events of any size are eligible to enter.

Judges take into consideration evidence of media attention, local collaborations and the benefits to Scotland’s visitor economy. Previous winners include Tiree Music Festival and Hebridean Celtic Festival.

The awards will take place at the New Drumossie Hotel, hosted by celebrity chef, Tony Singh.
