Celebrating Scapa Flow
The annual Celebrating Scapa Flow programme of events is due to take place in Kirkwall today.
Two talks, focusing on the centenary of the loss of HMS Vanguard and the world’s first landing of an aircraft on to a moving ship, will be hosted at the King Street Halls.
Dive boat captain, Emily Turton will give an illustrated talk, HMS Vanguard 100 Years Under Water, before a second talk, Squadron Commander Dunning DSC RNAS the Man, his Achievement and the Ship, led by naval historian, Commander David Hobbs MBE RN (retired).
Events start at 7.30pm.
