Changing days at Stromness Academy

From next Monday, Stromness Academy is making a change to the shape of the school week.

Instead of five days of six periods, pupils will now have four days of seven periods and one day (Friday) of five periods. School will still start at 8.50am but classes will now finish at 3.35pm Monday to Thursday and 1.55pm on a Friday.

The changes have come about following consultation with parents, pupils and staff and come into effect on June 10.

Stromness Academy Head Teacher, Hilda Learmonth, said: “The results of our consultation showed that four days of seven periods and one day of five periods was the preferred option, by pupils, parents and staff.

“It is now the right time to adjust the shape of the week to allow for more flexibility in timetabling classes through the school.

“We have been working hard on Curriculum for Excellence developments and judge that Broad General Education, for S1 to S3, and Senior Phase, for S4 to S6, will benefit from these adjustments.”
