Charity Auction launched ahead of ROAR gig

Loud ‘n’ Live is back!

The seventh edition of the volunteer-produced charity gig is set to rock the Orkney Sailing Club in Kirkwall this Friday, August 19, in aid of Samaritans and Orkney Rape and Sexual Assault Service (ORSAS).

Put together by ROAR, a group of young volunteers who raise money for Orkney causes by staging live events throughout the year, Loud ‘n’ Live 7 will see performances from established homegrown acts including Stereo Lobsters, The Chair, and Silver Penguins, as well as young up-and-comers including Bryttania, and duo Kirsty Harrison and Owen Griffith.

As part of the event, which kicks off at 7.30pm, there will also be a charity auction — hosted by Graham Low — in aid of the two charities.

Lots on offer include:

  • Tasting tour for two from Orkney Distillery
  • An Alison Moore  pendant
  • An Ortak voucher
  • A Pentland ferries voucher for a car and one adult
  • A Nerf Gun party  from the Pickaquoy Centre
  • Sheila fleet Lunar Statement Necklace in Lunar Blue Enamel
  • A Roka bag from Starlings
  • A Helgi’s voucher
  • Hampers from Jolly’s and Humes
  • One night in the Pierowall Hotel for two
  • A cushion from Hume Sweet Hume
  • A bottle of Highland Park Triskelion and six Viking Code tumblers
  • More items on offer from Bayleaf delicatessen, Wellpark Garden centre, Ortak, and Kirkness and Gorie

“Who needs the Eurovision when it’s right here on our doorstep,” said Adele Pirie, one of the young volunteers behind the event.

“Local talent giving to local charities. It’ll be awesome to meet up with everyone — the sound will be electric.”

Another volunteer, Lee Taylor, explained that a good couple of months have gone into the event.

“We’ve had a lot a folk that have been in ROAR in previous years involved in the making of this event, so we’re hoping it will be one of the best yet,” he said.

Leah Gunn explained why she and fellow organisers have selected Samaritans and ORSAS as their chosen charities.

“We believe it’s important for people who have been through difficult and traumatic times to receive the support they need and deserve, as no one should have to go through such hard times alone,” she said.

Overall, the youngsters are hoping for a stellar night filled with entertainment and fundraising.

Jack Stanton said: “We are looking forward to creating an enjoyable event that a wide range of people from within the community can enjoy together.”
