Children’s Panel needs more Orkney members
As part of a national campaign to recruit new Children’s Panel members, an information evening is taking place in the Pickaquoy Centre, Kirkwall, tonight, Thursday.
Orkney people who think they have what it takes to help vulnerable children and young people, are being urged to join the 2,500 volunteers across the country who make up the national Children’s Panel.
According to Children’s Hearings Scotland, panel members play a crucial role in helping neglected, troubled and abused children and young people, attending hearings to address the needs and behaviour of those who face serious problems in their life.
To ensure the system offers the best possible support, new volunteers from all backgrounds, particularly men, are needed every year.
The deadline for applications is Friday, October 4.
Applicants need to be 18 or over and no qualifications are needed as full training is given to help prepare panel members for the challenges and difficult decisions they will face.
Tonight’s event begins at 7pm. For more details, see www.childrenspanelscotland.org.
