Clear skies give a good view of Mercury’s transit
Orkney was blessed with clear skies – from sunrise to sunset – on Monday, allowing the entire transit of Mercury to be observed and recorded.
According to Rousay astronomer John Vetterlein, there will not be a comparable opportunity to observe a transit of Mercury from Orkney until 2049.
